We are pleased to present the numerous projects through which our active community members have contributed to NFDI4Microbiota’s efforts to improve the research data management (RDM) ecosystem for microbiology and to make data, software, models, and other outputs FAIR, open, and AI-ready. Flexible funding supporting small projects and Use Cases that advance FAIR data, infrastructure, and open science in microbiology.

Non-profit institutions working in microbiology infrastructure aligned with NFDI4Microbiota goals. Pure research projects without infrastructure components are not eligible.

Examples include data brokerage, workflow development, data storage, infrastructure/services, training, community engagement, data stewardship, ELNs, and FAIR data deposition.

Projects must start immediately, involve max. 4 co-applicants, be ≤15 pages, and produce open-access outputs. Participation in the annual conference is mandatory.

The amount of funding, which only covers personnel and direct costs, can change. Please refer to our Flex Funds for more information.

The call usually opens in the summer time and the results are communicated before the end of the year. You can find the latest information on the Flex Funds announcement page.

Applications are reviewed by an external Project Review Board based on relevance, quality, feasibility, and alignment with NFDI4Microbiota.

Application form, budget plan, and (if applicable) a data management plan. Additional letters may be required depending on the topic.

Yes. Funding is only granted to partner or participating institutions. New applicants can join upon approval.
